Since 1999, 3 MILLION people have died from wars and
civil conflict--in just ONE COUNTRY--The Democratic Republic of the Congo.
10,000 African children die EACH DAY due
to hunger and waterborne diseases, 30,000 worldwide. The lack of clean water is a major scourge throughout West Africa.
Over
100 MILLION Africans go to bed hungry--EVERY DAY!
Most people in Africa have to exist on less than $1.00 per day.
A family earning just $2000 a year can live a happy, comfortable life.
Almost 1% of Africa's virgin forests
are disappearing each YEAR. This is a complex problem, but mainly a result of economic pressures, local people's daily needs
for fuel, and the world's insatiable demand for hardwoods.
Since the AIDS epidemic began, almost 20 MILLION Africans
have died from the disease---4 million of them children. Another 25 to 30 million people are infected, with some villages
having as high as a 1 in 5 infection rate. The number of orphans created by deaths due to AIDS is overwhelming relief agencies
throughout affected areas, and is a humanitarian disaster of historic proportions.
The situation in the Sudan continues
to fester. The US, certainly the Bush administration, will do little, since the alienation of yet another Arab government
is not politically correct. Thus hundreds of thousands will die, in the name of global politics. Rwanda, the Congo, Sudan,
Liberia, Sierra Leone...When will their suffering end?
